Punjab Govt Plans to Build New Airport in Lahore

The Punjab government’s long-awaited airline project, Air Punjab, is moving closer to becoming a reality. The working committee overseeing the project has formally requested Rs. 1 billion from the provincial finance department to start its operations.

According to government sources, the main goal of Air Punjab is to improve regional connectivity and make air travel more accessible for people across the province. The airline plans to lease five aircraft in its first phase of operations, which will begin once the requested funds are approved.

Officials shared that Air Punjab will focus on connecting smaller cities within Punjab to major hubs like Lahore, Multan, and Islamabad. This step is expected to make travel faster, safer, and more affordable for passengers who currently rely on road or rail transport.

The project is being seen as a significant milestone in Punjab’s efforts to modernize its transport infrastructure. Once operational, Air Punjab could also help boost tourism, trade, and economic growth by improving mobility for both residents and businesses.

In addition to domestic routes, the provincial government has also expressed interest in exploring regional and international destinations in later phases, depending on the success of the initial rollout.

By establishing its own airline, Punjab aims to reduce dependency on federal or private carriers and ensure that smaller cities receive the same level of air connectivity as larger ones.

Air Punjab reflects the government’s vision for progress and accessibility, marking a major step toward transforming the province’s transport landscape.
