Sharjeel, ADB team discuss issues facing Red Line BRT projects

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon met a delegation of the Asian Development Bank led by Country Director Emma Fenn. The delegation included Deputy Country Director Asad Aleem, Project Officer Hamid Khan, Khayyam Abbasi and Syed Adnan. Secretary Transport Asad Zamin and CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro were also present.

Sharjeel Inam Memon welcomed the guests on their arrival in Karachi. The ADB delegation received a detailed briefing on the current phases, construction progress and technical issues related to the Red Line BRT.

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior Minister, and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, said the government is making every effort to ensure that ongoing transport projects in Karachi, especially the Red Line BRT, become exemplary at the government level. He said the Sindh government is working around the clock to complete the project quickly.

He stated that the Sindh Chief Minister and the relevant team are working continuously and that project offices remain open at all hours to monitor progress. He said practical steps have been taken to resolve the issues facing the Red Line BRT and that construction is now moving forward steadily.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said Karachi is a large and complex metropolitan city with underground and above-ground utilities belonging to various companies and agencies. Relocating these utilities for the Red Line BRT was a major challenge. Most technical issues have been resolved and the remaining ones are being handled through a coordinated strategy.

He said the Sindh government values its partnership with ADB and appreciates the institution’s cooperation. He added that the Red Line BRT will be completed as soon as possible and will provide modern travel facilities to citizens.
