Solar Prices in Pakistan Drop Significantly After New Policy by the Government; Here’re New Prices

The prices of solar panels in Pakistan have seen a sharp decline after the federal government introduced key amendments to its net metering policy. These changes have affected the cost of installing solar systems, making them more affordable for consumers looking to switch to renewable energy.

Due to the policy update, the cost of solar panels has dropped significantly in local markets. Depending on the system capacity and location, the price reduction ranges from Rs35,000 to Rs175,000. This decline has encouraged more people to consider solar energy as an alternative to expensive grid electricity.

Current Solar Panel Prices in Pakistan

The latest prices for solar power systems in the country are as follows:

  • 5 kW system – Rs5,00,000 to Rs5,50,000
  • 7 kW system – Around Rs6,00,000
  • 10 kW system – Above Rs8,00,000
  • 12-15 kW system – Over Rs1.2 million

The government recently reduced the buyback rate for solar net metering to Rs10 per unit. Additionally, new policies introduced net billing for new solar consumers and limited solar capacity installation to only 10% above the sanctioned load—down from the previous 50%. These steps were taken to manage the financial impact of the rising number of solar users on the national grid.

While the policy aims to balance energy costs, it has sparked mixed reactions. Some believe the reduced buyback rate and new restrictions may slow down the growth of the solar industry. However, the lower upfront costs of solar panels have made it easier for households and businesses to transition to renewable energy.

Despite concerns, Pakistan’s solar market remains active, with many consumers considering installations due to the drop in prices. The coming months will determine how these policy changes shape the future of solar energy in the country.
