Sri Lanka shares end higher with broad based gains

Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Wednesday ahead of a market holiday.

The CSE All-Share index settled 0.43% higher at 23,708.70 points.

Sri Lanka markets will be closed on Thursday, January 15, for a local holiday. Trading will resume on Friday, January 16.

C.W. Mackie and Industrial Asphalts (Ceylon) were the top percentage gainers on the index, surging 27% and 25%, respectively, on the day.

Trading volume on the index jumped to 326.3 million shares from 133.3 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover rose to 9.27 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($29.96 million) from 4.94 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading shares worth 2.25 billion rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 8.73 billion rupees, the data showed.
