UK PM Announces £10 Million to Protect Mosques and Muslim Communities

The UK government has announced £10 million in new security funding to protect mosques and Muslim community centers across the country. The decision comes as part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of worshippers and prevent hate crimes targeting Muslim communities.

Under this new initiative, mosques and Islamic faith centers will receive support for installing CCTV cameras, alarm systems, secure fencing, and hiring trained security staff. The funding will strengthen the existing Protective Security for Mosques Scheme, which has already helped improve safety in several areas.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that every person in the UK should feel safe when practicing their faith. He emphasized that protecting religious freedoms is a core value of the country and that hate or violence of any kind will not be tolerated.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood added that the government stands firmly with Muslim communities, recognizing their contributions and ensuring they can worship without fear or intimidation.

The British Muslim Trust welcomed the announcement, calling it a timely and essential step to build confidence and security among Muslim citizens.

This new funding comes amid a rise in reports of hate incidents targeting faith groups across the UK. Authorities say the extra resources will help local police and community leaders work together to make religious spaces safer.

The initiative reinforces the government’s message of unity, tolerance, and respect for all faiths living peacefully within Britain’s diverse society.
