Weddings Got More Expensive for Karachiites! KMC Imposes Up to Rs. 30,000 in New Taxes on Wedding Halls

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has introduced a new tax policy for wedding halls across the city. Under this policy, wedding venues will now be required to pay a tax of up to Rs. 30,000, depending on the size of the event and the type of services offered.

The amount of tax will be calculated based on several factors, such as the number of guests attending, whether live cooking arrangements are made, the availability of parking, and the level of decoration or beautification at the venue. Each of these features will influence the final tax amount.

The new tax rates are not the same across all areas of Karachi. Districts like Korangi and Malir will have slightly lower charges compared to others. This variation takes into account the economic differences in various parts of the city.

The policy is part of a broader effort by KMC to bring more regulation and structure to the wedding and events industry. It has been introduced in line with the Sindh Local Government Act of 2013. The main goal is to make sure that wedding halls follow proper municipal rules and contribute fairly to city development through taxation.

Officials believe this step will help improve oversight of event venues and ensure they operate within legal and safety standards.
