Weekly SPI inflation down 0.54pc

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) inflation for the week ended on February 26, 2026 has registered a reduction of 0.54 percent owing to a decrease in the prices of tomatoes 29.67 percent, potatoes 10.62 percent, chicken 9.03 percent, onions 7.44 percent, eggs 3.43 percent, wheat flour 1.39 percent, bread 1.12 percent and sugar 0.79 percent.

The SPI data released here on Friday by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) revealed on Week on Week (WoW) basis the significant increase was observed in the prices of Bananas 4.49 percent, shirting 1.36 percent, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) 0.86 percent, garlic 0.81 percent, long cloth 0.70 percent, mutton 0.63 percent, pulse masoor0.47 percent, lawn printed 0.44 percent, pulse mash 0.40 percent, powdered milk 0.26 percent and curd and beef 0.25 percent each.

During the week, out of 51, prices of 13 items, which is 25.49 percent of the basket, witnessed an increase, whereas prices of 14 items, which is 27.45 percent of the SPI basket witnessed a reduction, and prices of the 24 items, which is 47.06 percent of the basket, remained stable.
