YouTube has announced new parental control features that give parents more power over how their teenagers use the app, especially when it comes to YouTube Shorts, which are short, fast-paced videos.

With these new controls, parents can limit or completely block their teen’s access to Shorts. They can set daily time limits starting from zero minutes up to two hours, depending on what they feel is appropriate. Parents can also add bedtime reminders and break alerts to encourage healthier screen habits and reduce excessive use.

YouTube is also making it easier to set up supervised accounts, so parents can start managing their child’s viewing experience more quickly. Controls on shared devices, such as family tablets or smart TVs, are being improved to make sure supervision remains effective even when multiple people use the same device.

In addition, YouTube says it will focus more on showing teens positive, educational, and wellbeing-related content. This move aims to reduce exposure to harmful or overly addictive videos and support healthier online experiences for young users.

These changes are part of a wider effort by YouTube and other technology companies to address growing concerns from parents and experts about screen time, online safety, and the impact of addictive content on children and teenagers.
