Türkiye has reached an important milestone in its defence industry as its first locally developed jet trainer and light attack aircraft, HÜRJET, has secured a €2.6 billion export deal with Spain.

This agreement highlights the growing global trust in Türkiye’s aerospace engineering and defence manufacturing capabilities.

The contract was signed between Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), Airbus, and Spain’s Ministry of Defence. Under the agreement, HÜRJET aircraft will be produced at TUSAŞ facilities in Türkiye.

Deliveries are planned to start in the last quarter of 2028 and will continue gradually until 2036. This long-term schedule reflects the scale and importance of the project for both countries.

HÜRJET is designed as a modern jet trainer with light combat capabilities. It is intended to meet the training needs of next-generation pilots while also being capable of performing light attack missions.

Its development represents a major step forward for Türkiye’s defence sector, showing that the country can design, build, and export advanced military aircraft.

Haluk Görgün, head of the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries, described the agreement as a strategic breakthrough.

He stated that the deal not only strengthens defence cooperation between Türkiye and Europe but also proves Türkiye’s ability to compete in the global defence market. According to him, HÜRJET demonstrates high performance, advanced technology, and reliability.

This export agreement is expected to boost Türkiye’s defence exports, create new opportunities for technological growth, and strengthen partnerships with international defence companies.
